So, I did a thing [insert side eyes emoji]...
In one of my random scrolling escapades on Instagram, I came across a DIYer with the #oneroomchallenge hashtag. I clicked it of course, then scrolled a bit more. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was not an actual "competition," but more of a self-motivating challenge. I really liked that concept and opted to start following the page to see more. This was a while ago, because at the time it obviously didn't dawn on me to sign up.
But fast forward >> to a month ago, I was scrolling the accounts I follow looking for a particular page and I randomly saw the OneRoomChallenge handle. I knew I was preparing to work on my home office makeover and wondered when/how/what the challenge really entailed. So this time I clicked with intent to potentially participate and to my surpriiiiiiise, registration was open and the challenge started in a month!
I hesitated and hovered over that Registration button for some time; contemplating if I really wanted the time constraints of 8 weeks, knowing how my procrastination and overthinking is setup. But on the flip-side, I'd been telling myself I need to work on my consistency and overcoming the obstacles that halt me to begin with. PLUS my office is the foundation of all the things I want to do, which means I have to get it done. Why not challenge myself, to make sure that I do?
8 weeks is plenty of time. Let's get into the Plans!
The Before
I created this vision board 3 years ago. I managed to paint an accent wall and construct my desk frame out of galvanized pipe. I hung a few pictures and installed a couple wall shelves and never went back.
Here we are today, ready to take this room past the finish line.
2023 Mood Board
I'm going for a Moody Lounge/Home Office vibe. This room will be where I spend most of time which means, I need it to be comfortable and relaxing. I plan to paint the rest of the room the same color as the existing accent wall including the ceiling. I'll be taking the doors off the closet and building my own custom sliding doors. In the closet, I'll finish creating the "office space" by building a butcher-block desk surface, adding an outlet, and securing the shelving. I also have an infamous cube shelf that I'd like to DIY into a coffee bar.
DIY Builds
In the upcoming weeks, I'll be posting more details about each project as I get to them. Here's a list of everything I plan to DIY:
Butch-block Desktop using the pipe frame
Sliding doors
Coffee Bar Cube w/sliding door feature and drawers
Butcher-block top for the cube & bar (matching the desk)
Undisclosed wall accent feature
Special Thanks
To the @OneRoomChallenge & @ApartmentTherapy for this challenge. I think it is a great motivator and I'm looking forward to all the things in between. Be sure to check out my stories and posts on Instagram to see what I'll be working on throughout the challenge. I may need your advice, suggestions, or positive vibes to get me through! So special thanks to you too!
Always look forward to your next project. Can't wait for "us" to get started.
